When children start formal education at around five years old it can be quite a shock to the system that they suddenly have a set of classroom rules to follow and a structured day planned out for them. Therefore a formal style of lesson teaching may not be the best option and the children could benefit from more of a ‘learn whilst you play’ style of education
Learning at this age should be fun and many skills can be taught through role play and games with the children. For example basic math can be explored through shop play this can help the children with counting and basic adding and subtraction. It can also help children learn about money.
Another fun learning game could be learning science playing with the water table experimenting which items sink and which float and asking the children to guess what will happen when the items go in the water.
